4 Ways to Trust the Lord with all your Heart

Trusting someone you’re unfamiliar with can be challenging. This is why many people find it difficult to trust the Lord.

When someone says, “Trust me,” we typically respond in one of two ways: we either agree or question, “Why should I?”. The Bible advises caution when trusting in man, but the same does not apply when it comes to trusting in God (Psalm 146:3).

In this article, I will discuss the process of trusting God and, more importantly, why you should trust the Lord with all your heart.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

What Does it Mean to Trust in the Lord?

To truly trust the Lord, it’s important to understand who He is. The distinction lies in whether you desire to follow His ways or are just going through the motions to look like you are following Him.

Many claim to know God but their lives don’t reflect or resemble Christ. If you desire to trust the Lord with your whole heart, it’s crucial to understand His nature. Trusting in God involves wholeheartedly submitting your life to His divine plan.

According to Romans 8:28, the Bible assures us that God orchestrates everything for good when we walk in alignment with His purpose.

This means that by following God’s path faithfully, we can confidently trust Him to guide our lives because He uses everything for good and knows what’s best for us.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

How to Trust the Lord with Your Whole Heart

1. Connect with the Lord Through Prayer

Prayer is communication with God, similar to conversing with a friend or spouse, but with deeper significance.

During prayer, you can openly express your thoughts and feelings to God. Being sincere acknowledges the truth within your heart, as He already knows everything about you.

Your prayers are safe with God. Whether sharing frustrations, tears, or questions, He encourages you to pour out your heart without hesitation.

While not every prayer may receive a direct answer, God always listens attentively, responding in alignment with His will for you.

Consistent communication with God causes you to say “I will trust in the Lord”, especially as you witness His interventions in your life. Reflecting on past events reveals how God has faithfully responded to your prayers.

Observing God’s faithfulness makes it easier to place trust in Him. As you devote time to prayer, expect to receive guidance through the Holy Spirit and His Word.

2. Learn about God Through the Bible

Taking the time to study the Bible will give you an understanding of God’s nature, His intentions, and His plan for humanity.

Learning about God’s characteristics such as His love, forgiveness, and mercy will help you understand more about who He is.

Focusing on specific verses and allowing God’s Word to dwell in your heart will lead to a deep understanding of God’s character and purpose.

A great place to start is by studying the Gospels. After you go through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, you might consider moving on to the Old Testament and exploring Genesis. It covers the creation story, the fall of man, and the consequences of man’s sin.

From there, you can move to Exodus or switch back to the New Testament. The Bible may seem like a lot of information but it’s necessary to study the whole Bible because it fits together in God’s plan for humanity.

4. Remember that Life can be Hard

Something important for everyone to understand is that when you learn to trust the Lord with all your heart, it applies to both challenging and pleasant times.

It’s crucial to realize that life won’t always be smooth sailing. We were never guaranteed an easy life. Just look at the trials faced by the Apostle Paul – whippings, beatings, and imprisonment.

The Apostle Stephen was stoned for spreading the Gospel, and many other Apostles and disciples of Jesus were martyred for their faith.

John 16:33 tells us:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Even though life may not be easy, we are assured that God will be by our side every day. Keep trusting Him, He has conquered the world, and we can too through His strength.
